Dogs or Cats I prefer cats over dogs as they seem to be easier to have around. We have had both a dog and a cat and as of today we only have a cat. Our children ages 6 & 9 swore that they would be responsible for the dog and begged us to get them one, so one year we did, but when it came time to mow the yard neither of them wanted the responsibility of cleaning up after the dog. One day our little Jack Russell mix was in the backyard all day by himself and when we returned home I had noticed that he had climbed on top of the hot tub cover and chewed up many holes in it. Needless to say I had to break the children's hearts the day we gave him away. Our cat on the other hand it the sweetest cat there is. She is house broken and loves to play. One day, on Christmas as a matter of fact, she did try to bring a present for us into the house though, I had let her outside in the morning as I do every day and when I opened the door to let her in she snuck by me with a mouse in her mouth, which was the only time that she had ever done that, I think she was just bringing us a Christmas present. She is just so self efficient and much easier to take care of than a dog. We love our Holly.
